Do NOT remove the brown shield fronds – they protect the roots and collect water and debris. Remove only dead or damaged fertile fronds. Propagate by separating pups from the rhizome or dividing large plants.

¿Qué problemas afectan a Staghorn Fern?

Black patches and rot at the base from overwatering or humid stagnant air (black spot fungus); scale, mealybugs, aphids, spider mites. Brown felt under the fertile frond tips is normal spore patches, not disease.

¿Cómo solucionar los problemas de Staghorn Fern?

Mount on a board, bark or tree-fern slab over a pad of sphagnum, tied with plastic, nylon or non-copper wire. Water when the root ball has dried slightly (fronds just start to droop) – about weekly in warm weather, less when cool; never soaking wet. Balanced 1:1:1 feed: young plants monthly in warm months and every other month when cool; mature plants only once or twice a year. Takes brief cold near freezing but keep it frost-free.
