How do you trim and propagate Sphagnum Moss (Live)?
Trim where it overgrows small plants – vigorous sphagnum can smother sundews and flytraps. Propagate by pinching off heads or chopping strands and spreading them on wet media; it takes a couple of months to establish and colour up.
What problems affect Sphagnum Moss (Live)?
White, bleached tips from drying out; browning and collapse from heat combined with wet, stagnant conditions; blackening from tannin and mineral build-up; weedy red roof moss (Ceratodon purpureus) invading.
How do you fix Sphagnum Moss (Live) problems?
Only rain, distilled or RO water; lay it on a constantly wet base (peat or dead sphagnum) over drainage, never submerged. Flush with clean water now and then to prevent blackening. In a terrarium, default to no feeding. Pull invaders early and start from clean material. It acidifies its surroundings – good for carnivores, bad next to lime-loving plants.
