Snip off blackened traps and dead leaves. Flower stalks can be removed to save the plant's energy, or left if you want seed. Do not set off traps for fun – each closes only a handful of times before it dies. Repot yearly in spring into fresh media.

Water only with rain, distilled or RO water (ICPS: under 90 ppm dissolved solids); stand the pot in a tray of it while growing, damp rather than sodden in winter. Pot in sphagnum, pure peat or 1:1 peat and sand; ICPS advises against perlite; never ordinary or fertilised compost. NEVER fertilise the soil – it can go months without prey. Give a cool winter rest (RHS: keep above 10°C); ICPS says indoor plants can skip dormancy, but the rest is the safer default.
